The Election Commission on Thursday said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal violated the Model Code of Conduct during his road show in Gujarat.

"In the reports which have been given to us, it is written that the model code of conduct was not followed," said Election Commissioner H.S. Brahma.

"District collector clearly said that the arguments took place between them. We want that no candidate and political parties to do any activity that will make wrong news about our country," he added.

He asserted that such indiscipline would not be tolerated and should not happen in our country.

"It is a democratic country and nothing like this should happen. We want that the rules should be followed," he added.

Earlier today, AAP leader Ashutosh was taken into custody by the Delhi Police for questioning in connection to his role in clashes outside the BJP headquarters.

AAP workers on Wednesday fought pitched battles with BJP activists outside the saffron party headquarters here hours after AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was detained briefly in Gujarat.

The Gujarat Police stated that Kejriwal had not taken permission from them to hold a road show.
