The Kerala Excise Department on Tuesday seized 34 litres of spirit brought to make spurious liquor in Munnar.

The spirit was hidden behind a rock enclave in the Eucalyptus plantation.

With the closure of all liquor shops in Kerala following the lockdown, the plantation areas here were witnessing a flow of illicit liquor.

G Vijayakumar, Excise Inspector, said that the raid was conducted after getting a tipoff.

"After the liquor outlets were closed, there was a high demand and taking this as chance the illicit liquor mafia has started to operate. We seized 34 litres of spirit that they were trying to sell after mixing colour," Vijayakumar told ANI.

Meanwhile, the Excise Department and the police have intensified their vigil against the transportation of spirit across the state.
