Kevin Costner has successfully won the appeal to overturn a restrictive 'R' rating for his new drama 'Black And White' at the Motion Picture Association of America (Mpaa).

The 'Rumor has it' actor reunited with his Upside of Anger director Mike Binder for the project, in which he stars as a man fighting for custody of his biracial granddaughter, Contactmusic reported.

The picture was given an 'R' classification, which prevents children under the age of 17 from seeing the film without an adult, due to a brief scene featuring strong language but after the appeal officials at the Mpaa's Classification and Rating Appeals Board gave it the family-friendly Pg-13 rating.
