Devotees from all over Tripura gathered at the Puran Haveli to celebrate Kharchi Puja or the worship of fourteen gods, one of the most important festivals for tribals in the state.

Although Kharchi is essentially a tribal festival, non-tribals also participate in this festival with equal enthusiasm.

As a part of the celebration, the priests lead a procession followed by thousands of devotees to the nearby river to bathe the deities.

The word Kharchi is derived from Khya meaning earth. Kharchi puja is the worship of earth that sustains mankind with all her resources.

Among the rituals, a usual feature of the festival is the sacrifice of goats and pigeons that takes place at an Alter.
