Kharge appeals to PM Modi to find a solution to Cauvery water dispute

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and find a solution to the Cauvery water dispute so that law and order is restored in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Addressing media here, Kharge said, former prime ministers like Indira Gandhi had also taken initiatives to solve inter-state disputes.

"I appeal to everyone in Karnataka and in the state to maintain law and order and restore peace. The state government has discussed the problems today to work to maintain peace and also to look after the demands of the farmers," Kharge said.

 

"All of us have appealed to the Prime Minister's office to find a solution to this issue. I have talked to the state government, which is necessary to look after the interests of farmers as well as to look after the drinking water of the people. We want the Prime Minister to take steps find a solution," he added.

Kharge said, "Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had also taken initiatives because this is an inter-state problem, an inter-state water dispute.

Kharge further said, "Me along with leaders of different parties in Karnataka have contacted the PM's office that he should take an initiative and find a solution.It is not the question of my party, it is the question relating to all parties and the state.
