A new study has rebuffed claims of a previous report that stated that kids with single parent are more likely to develop emotional problems than those whose parents had stayed together.

The new research, conducted by the NatCen Social Research on 12,877 seven-year-old children, found that family composition has "no significant effect" on the happiness of children, the Independent reported.

When the children were asked how often do they felt happy, 36 percent children of 'broken homes' said they were happy "all the time" while the remaining 64 percent reported being happy "sometimes or never".

The findings showed that it is the quality of relationships at home which most strongly influence a child's well-being.
