Kila Raipur Sports Festival enthralls spectators

The carnival continued to attract thousands of spectators as the sun brightened the open air stadium on the penultimate day of the 79th Kila Raipur Sports Festival.

An almost full house attendance at the stadium topped the action of the day on Saturday. Second to none the audience was anticipating much action, and they went home satisfied at the end of the day.

The horse riding and martial arts by Nihang Singhs drew repeated applause from the big gathering. Foreigners could be seen mingling with Maghar Singh, the veteran Nihang Singh and his group and showing great excitement for loading and unloading competition.

 

Athelitics, hockey, Kabaddi and MRF Tractor Tyre race were the top competitive sports played today.

In Long jump, Manjit Singh from Delhi leaped a clean 7.08 m to take top honours way ahead of the second placed Mahikpreet Singh from Sangrur. Kulwinder Kaur took the top honours in women's long jump with a jump of 5.09 m ahead of Shruti Singh.

In 400 m women, Navjot Kaur from Sangrur beat Sukhvinder Kaur from Jalandhar and Virpal Kaur from Bhatinda even as 400 m men's honours were won by Neeraj from Lucknow, who finished ahead of Narinder Singh of Patiala and Manish from UP.

Bhagwant Memorial Gold Cup Hockey - Men saw some riveting hockey being played, possibly inspired by the ongoing Hockey India League.

Here, Haryana - Beat Kila Raipur - 3:1, Kila Raipur Academy beat Sikandpur - 3:0 and Jharkhand Academy Beat Amloh Academy - 5:1. Await some scintillating display of field hockey today to find out the eventual winner.

The MRF Tractor tyre rolling event, a brand new event excited many and had as many as 20 entrants. A simple looking task to rolling the Tractor tyre, was indeed a tough one. The finals of the event will be held today.

Baazigars enthralled the audience once again with amazing feats, like bending the rod with ones throat to holding a ladder in the mouth and balancing.

Youngsters - 12 to 18 showed some awesome skills on horses, from salutes to jumping over fire laden bars.

If you thought humans can dance well, check out the horses and camels, who would dance to the music and the audience applause and encouragement said it all.

MP Ravneet Singh Bittu from Ludhiana, was the chief guest today and has promised Rs 10 lakh towards the Kila Raipir Sports Festival, to upgrade the facilities and make it even more inviting for people to attend and participate and Rs 10 lakh for development of Kila Raipur Village.

He was accompanied by MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu of Ludhiana.
