The New Zealand media has sympathised with West Indies for feeling hard done by after their spinner and best bowler Shane Shillingford was suspended indefinitely for failing a test for a suspect bowling action.
West Indies is currently playing in New Zealand in their third Test at Hamilton, after having drawn the first Test and losing to the hosts in the second Test.
According to Stuff.co.nz, Shillingford failed to convince an independent panel that his bowling arm was within the permitted 15 degrees (from the point the arm raises above the shoulder to the point of delivery), and the report sympathised with the tourists, saying that 'chucking' is one of the worst labels a bowler can be tarred with.
The report mentioned that Shillingford's career is now under a cloud after being banned for a second time, with the on-field umpires reporting his action as suspect during the Tests in India last month.
However, the report further said that most countries have bowlers whose actions raise eyebrows, and even New Zealand's part-time off-spinner Kane Williamson bowls in long sleeves with a jerky delivery but has never had official concerns raised in his career.
