Kiwis rope in Dimitri Mascarenhas as bowling coach

Former England all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas has been appointed New Zealand 's bowling coach on a two-year contract after the stunning comeback staged by the Black Caps in the recent test match at Headingley.

Hired in an interim role following Shane Bond's departure in April, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) offered Mascarenhas to stay with the team till 2017 after the Kiwi bowlers impressed during the drawn 1-1 series against England.

NZC's head of cricket Lindsay Crocker said that Mascarenhas had impressed in the short time he had been with the team, adding that they were delighted he had accepted the offer to continue working with the side, Sport24 reported.

 

Crocker also said that both coach Mike Hesson and captain Brendon McCullum had been pleased with his contribution on the tour and had watched him develop excellent working relationships with the bowling group.

Mascarenhas made 20 one-day and 14 Twenty20 appearances for England as an all-rounder before venturing into a coaching career in New Zealand domestic cricket.
