The Kolkata Knight Riders have gained an eight-wicket victory over play-off qualifiers, the Chennai Super Kings, with 12 balls to spare in an Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday.

KKR batsmen Robin Uthappa and Shakib Al Hasan demolished Chennai's bowling attack, with Uthappa smashing an innings of 67 off just 39 balls to guide Kolkata to 156 for two with two full overs remaining after Chennai, who were sent into bat first, scored 154 for four mainly due to Suresh Raina (65).

According to Sport24, Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir launched the chase by adding 64 runs for the first wicket off just 44 deliveries before the veteran left-handed Gambhir edged a ball from Ishwar Pandey (1-31) onto his stumps.

Kolkata remain fourth on the table behind the Rajasthan Royals on net run rate after the victory and the report said that both sides are now just two points behind Chennai with two games left in the group stage.

Despite the loss, Chennai are secure in the knowledge that they have qualified for the play-offs by virtue of the Royal Challengers Bangalore's defeat to the Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier on Tuesday, the report added.
