Swashbuckling Indian batsman Virat Kohli has received a flurry of praises after he created history by becoming the first batsman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to reach 4000-run milestone.

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, who was nursing a finger injury, became the tournament's highest run scorer after smashing an unprecedented fourth century of the season during his side's 82-run win by Duckworth-Lewis method over Kings XI Punjab at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Describing Kohli as a 'serious' player, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner wrote on Twitter, "Even if they used a marble @imVkohli would still see it as a balloon. #seriousplayer nothing can stop him."

"Can't @imVkohli, just for variety, pretend to be uncertain sometimes," renowned Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle tweeted.

Lavishing praise over Kohli's blistering 113-run knock against Kings XI, former Indian batsman VVS Laxman said, "WOW!!What a player!!Never seen any batsmen play impact innings as consistently as @imVkohli ?? Take a bow buddy?? Keep it up?? # IPL #RCBvKXIP."

Former Indian skipper Anil Kumble admitted to have missed Kohli's performances, which he described it to be 'very special'.

"Away from all the Ipl action. Seems like I've missed a very special one from @imVkohli," Kumble said.

Meanwhile, Australian explosive opener Aaron Finch has urged Kohli to stop making batting look so easy, adding that it is embarrassing for the other batters in the world.

With the achievement, Kohli (4002) has surpassed Indian team-mate Suresh Raina's tally of 3,985 runs in the tournament's nine-year history, Sport24 reported.

Kohli, who also became the first batsman to score four tons in a single T20 season, said that he was not sure to score a century in 15 overs, adding that he was shocked to achieve that.

Earlier, the 27-year-old also became the highest run-getter in a single IPL season. He notched up a total of 865 runs in the 13 games he has played so far.

Kohli (109) and De Villiers (129) also recorded the highest partnership (229) in Twenty20 cricket history during their whooping 144-run win over Gujarat Lions on Saturday.
