Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday admitted that the batting unit hadn't performed to potential and it was the bowlers who should get credit for his side's resounding 108-run win over South Africa in the first Test of the four-match series.

Kohli said the entire bowling unit had displayed unity during the first Test.

"As a batting unit, we haven't performed to our potential in this game .The bowlers have stepped up. Even if the ball is spinning, how much ever, the bowlers need to pitch the ball in the right area. So, they should get credit for that," the 27-year-old told media persons here.

"Even the fast bowlers, in both innings, they bowled with good pace .Even in the last innings, their spells were really important to make the batsmen feel that they won't get easy runs from any corner. So I think that was very important as far as the whole bowling unit was concerned," he said.

Kohli also admitted to some errors being committed and promised to try not to repeat the same in the upcoming matches.

"We made shot judgment errors, which we know have been committed and will be corrected next time when we come out to play. Next time around, the guys will going to back themselves more, face the situation front on rather than thinking what could have been done. Be out there, being sure of what you want to do, not have any fear and execute well,"Kohli added.

Earlier, Chasing 218 on a difficult track, the South Africans failed to counter the Indian spinners, as both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin bundled them out for 109 in their second innings in less than 40 overs. Stiaan van Zyl was the lone batsman to provide some resistance by scoring 36.

Jadeja was adjudged Man of the Match for his five-wicket haul in South Africa's second innings to add to his three in their first innings. He also made a vital 38 in India's first innings

Ashwin claimed eight wickets overall, including three in the second innings, while Amit Mishra provided able support by dismissing a dangerous AB de Villiers for the second time in the match.

With this win, India have taken a 1-0 lead in the four-match series and will next take on South Africa in the second Test at Bangalore from November 14.
