Konkona Sen Sharma's directorial debut to get TIFF world premiere

Konkona Sen Sharma's debut directorial venture, a period drama called 'A Death in the Gunj,' has made it to the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) line-up, this year.

Set in the late 1970s, the movie speaks about a family's vacation to McCluskiegunj that goes awry.

The film stars Vikrant Massey, Ranvir Shorey, Kalki Koechlin, Gulshan Devaiah, Tillotama Shome, Jim Sarbh, Om Puri and Tanuja.

Other than Konkona, Indo-American director Mira Nair, Vikram Gandhi, actor Dev Patel too has made their way to TIFF this year.

Mira Nair's latest venture 'The Queen Of Katwe,' which will get a world premiere at the festival, scheduled from 8 to 18 September, is a biopic of Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi.

 

'Slumdog Millionaire' fame Dev Patel will be back to the festival with Garth Davis's 'Lion,' which follows the story of a lost Indian boy, adopted by an Australian couple, who sets to search for his family.

With Dev, the movie also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a small role.

NRI filmmaker Vikram Gandhi's 'Barry,' to be shown in TIFF, speaks about a young Barack Obama navigating his way through New York City in the early 1980s.

'Gandhi,' 'Ek Tha Tiger' famed actor Roshan Seth will come to the festival with UK's director Pete Travis's 'City of Tiny Lights,' that follows the story of a private detective and cricket fan, who finally lands a case.
