Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes and Brenda Vaccaro have been cast as voice stars in 'Kubo and the Two Strings.'

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film, which would be the first in Laika and Focus Features three-film pact, has been set in ancient Japan, and would feature Art Parkinson voice, who's best known for playing Rickon Stark on HBO's 'Game of Thrones', as the title character of Kubo.

Travis Knight, Laika president and CEO, would be making his directorial debut with the project, the original screenplay for which was penned by Marc Haimes and 'ParaNorman' writer-director Chris Butler.

The story follows kindhearted Kubo, who lives a humble life devotedly caring for his mother in their sleepy shoreside village. However, he suddenly finds himself on the run from gods and monsters, when a spirit from the past catches up with him to enforce an age-old vendetta.

The 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid project is being produced by Knight with Arianne Sutner, and has been slated for August 2016.
