Russia's 27th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova reportedly defeated Czech Republic's Lucie Safarova 6-3, 6-4 to make it to her seventh French Open quarterfinals on Monday.

Kuznetsova, who won her second Grand Slam title in Paris in 2009 five years after she won the US Open, will now face Romanian fourth seed Simona Halep for a clash to make it to the semifinals.

According to Sport24, Kuznetsova, who also made it to the 2006 final in Paris where she lost to Justine Henin, broke three times to bag the opening set in 34 minutes and then went on to close the game 6-4 on her second match point.

Kuznetsova is one of the two former champions to reach the quarterfinals, the other being her fellow Russian Maria Sharapova, who is the 2012 champion, the report added.
