Venus Williams has been knocked out of Wimbledon as she lost to Petra Kvitova in a match between the former champions.
Kvitova advanced to the last 16 with a 5-7, 7-6 (7/2), 7-5 win over Williams in the women's singles at Wimbledon.
According to Sport24, 2011 winner Kvitova and five-time champions Williams treated the Centre Court fans to a high-quality third round encounter lasting two and a half hours before the Czech sixth seed finally defeated the American to extend her record against the 34-year-old to four wins from their five encounters.
Kvitova will face Chinese World Number 61 Peng Shuai for a place in the last eight.
Kvitova said that it was definitely a very tough battle, adding that she was preparing for this because she knows Williams can play very well on grass.
Kvitova said that when she lost the first set she was a little bit down mentally but knew that she could come back, adding that she was just lucky in the end.
Venus's defeat means that the seven-time Grand Slam winner has failed to reach the last 16 at a major since Wimbledon in 2011, the report added.
