Australia's controversial tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been handed a suspended ban and fine by the ATP Tour for an insulting remark made to Stanislas Wawrinka during their Rogers Cup match in Montreal.

According to an ATP statement, the 20-year-old was found guilty of 'aggravated behaviour' and slapped him with a 28-day ban and 25, 000 dollars fine.

However, the Australian could escape these punishments if he manages not to breach behavioural standards again at ATP events over the next six months.

The ATP further said that once the player would meet those conditions the penalties would be formally dismissed, Sport24 reported.

Kyrgios was earlier fined 10,000 dollars for making a derogatory suggestion about Wawrinka's girlfriend. He subsequently apologised for his remarks and insisted that those were made 'in the heat of the moments'.
