An eight-month-old mongrel puppy has become the world's first canine to climb the Mount Everest.
Rupee, who scaled the world's highest mountain with owner Joanne Lefson, was adopted after found starving and dehydrated from a dump in Ladakh, Northern India, the Daily Express reported.
Lefson got the dog checked by the vet, who confirmed that Rupee would not suffer from altitude sickness from being more than 17,000 ft above sea level as he was born in the Himalayas.
Lefson and her pet was joined by a film maker from Mumbai, Dev Argarwel, who agreed to shoot the expedition.
The trio, who flew to Delhi before arriving in Kathmandu, set off to base camp the following day and managed to complete the challenging climb to the base camp in ten days with the help of porters and guides.
Lefson said that her greatest concern was if her dog would be able to make the climb.
