Former Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi moved the Supreme Court on Wednesday for a stay of the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI's) Special General Meeting to consider a disciplinary committee's report against him.
The Supreme Court has asked Modi to mention the case before the bench concerned at 2 p.m.
The Delhi High Court had on Tuesday allowed the BCCI to conduct its Special General Meeting in Chennai on Wednesday, clearing the deck for the BCCI to impose a life ban on Modi over charges of alleged financial irregularities while heading the cash-rich IPL from 2008 to 2010.
The SGM, which is likely to be chaired by president in-exile N. Srinivasan, has been convened to discuss the report of the disciplinary committee on Modi and decide the quantum of disciplinary punishment. Two-third of the majority will be needed to vote in favour of Modi's life ban.
A minimum of 21 votes are required out of the total 31 to make Modi persona non-grata in the BCCI.
Modi was suspended after the closing ceremony in 2010. During his suspension, a three-member disciplinary committee comprising of Arun Jaitely and Jyotiraditya Scindia along with BCCI president N. Srinivasan was formed.
Srinivasan recused himself and the erstwhile IPL chairman Chirayu Amin was made a member. Subsequently Amin also recused himself and it became a two-member committee.
