Indian athlete Lalita Babar smashed her own national record to qualify for the 3000m steeplechase final at the World Athletics Championships on Monday.
The 26-year-old finished the race at in nine minutes and 27.86 seconds to surpass her own previous record of 9:34:13 and to set up a new national record.
Lalita had earlier won a bronze at the Incheon Asian Games 2014 and she is the only Indian to have qualified for the final round of the 3000m steeplechase event in an ongoing Championship.
Lalita,who finished fourth in heat number two, will now compete against 14 other women at the iconic Bird's Nest on August 26.
