Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majeed Memon on Thursday downplayed media reports that Vasundhara Raje had recommended former IPL boss Lalit Modi for a Padma award in 2007, saying the latter was at his peak as far as his achievements were concerned at that point of time.

Memon said Lalit Modi had in 2007 invented a new form of cricket in the shape of the IPL and was doing good business.

"And, therefore, at that point of time, there was no allegations against him and he was one of the persons who was seeking to have a Padma Shri or something of that kind. There is is nothing unnatural about it, but then he was finally not chosen," Memon told ANI here.

"People always crave to get this kind of honour. So, I don't think is there any significance to be attributed to this information," he added.
