The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday expressed confidence that the Parliament would enact the Land Acquisition ordinance, adding that the government was open to suggestions from all including veteran social activist Anna Hazare on the bill.
"Anna Hazare is a respectable person. If he has certain suggestions to make on the bill, the government has definitely talked about the fact that we want suggestions from all the sectors. His suggestions will definitely be given notice," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI.
Patra termed the ordinance a 'balanced' and 'comprehensive' bill, which is in the interest of the country's growth.
"The Land Acquisition ordinance that was passed by the government, we expect will surely become a law in this session. It is a very balanced, comprehensive bill. It looks after the farmers as well as the interest of the growth in the country. It sees to it that rural electrification, rural housing, rural growth, rural employment - all are addressed. Four time compensation to the farmer is also provided," he said.
"The 13 exempted acts that did not provide compensation in resettlement in fact had been brought under the ambit of the law, which is a welcome sign," he added.
Hazare, who has called for the Land Ordinance bill to be taken back by the government, has begun his protest against the ordinance at the Jantar Mantar here.
The social activist had earlier lashed out at the BJP-led government for removing provisions which provided taking the farmers' consent before acquiring their land.
