Congress leader Kamal Nath on Wednesday termed the Land Acquisition Ordinance as a historical injustice towards farmers and reiterated that his party would strongly oppose it.
"The Land Acquisition Ordinance is a historical injustice towards the farmers. We will strongly oppose it. The Bharatiya Janata Party government should take back this ordinance," said Kamal Nath.
The Congress party is holding a mega rally today called 'Zameen Wapsi Andolan' at Jantar Mantar to oppose the BJP government's land acquisition ordinance. Party leaders Jairam Ramesh, Digvijay Singh, Ahmed Patel and Deependra Hooda spoke at the rally condemning the central government for its attitude against farmers.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also stepped up pressure on the Centre by joining social activist Anna Hazare at his protest at the Jantar Mantar yesterday.
Terming the ordinance to be 'anti-farmer and anti-poor', Kejriwal had stated that if it was passed the government would act like a property dealer for big corporate honchos.
Janata Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav has also said that his party was preparing for a big movement against the ordinance.
