Thirteen people, including seven children, have been killed in a rare landslide in Karachi's Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, as it struck their thatch huts while they were asleep, said officials.

According to The Express Tribune, the victims belonged to three families that lived on a plot carved out of a hill.

The youngest victim is believed to be a six-month-old girl.

Senior police officer Javed Jaskani was quoted by the paper, as saying that 13 bodies were recovered from the site after five hours of rescue operation.
