Lanka declares 'National Mosquito Control Week' from Sept. 27

Sri Lanka Ministry of Health has declared that the week from September 27 to October 3 will be marked as 'National Mosquito Control Week' to launch an island wide mosquito eradication campaign.

Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala said that during the week island wide cleaning campaigns on identified mosquito breeding places as well as awareness programs will be carried out with the aim of eradicating the dengue epidemic, reports the Colombo Page.

During the National Mosquito Control Week, the Police, President's special task force on dengue prevention, members of the tri- forces and health officials will jointly conduct the dengue prevention activities.

 

Around 4,500 teams comprising health officials, volunteers, armed forces and police is said to carry out inspections of homes, public and religious places.

According to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry 39,561 suspected dengue cases have been reported to the Epidemiology Unit from all over the island during the last 9 months.
