Police in Colombo have arrested former health minister Tissa Attanayake on charges of forgery.
Police Media Spokesperson and Senior Superintendent of Police Ajith Rohana was quoted by the Colombo Page web site, as saying that Attanayake was arrested by the Colombo Crime Division at the Police Headquarters.
He said the police had initiated a probe into a document produced by Attanayake to the media during the January 8 presidential election.
The document was alleged to be a secret agreement between the UNP National Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and then common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena.
Both Wickremesinghe and Sirisena have denied inking such an agreement.
