Sri Lanka has approved the future visits of Chinese submarine provided that it is not frequent and Prime Minister Ranil Wickeremesinghe has assured India will not be kept in dark and will be informed about the visits.

According to the LankaPage, Wickermesinge said the criteria set out by the government will allow ships including submarines from all countries to visit Sri Lanka.

In case of any friendly visit, Sri Lanka will inform all its neighbouring countries including India, about the visit, he added.

The mistrust caused by the visit of Chinese submarine could have been avoided if India was kept in the picture, he suggested.

The criteria has been chalked out after both India and Japan expressed concerned when the Chinese submarine docked in the Colombo port.
