Sri Lanka will sign the Paris Agreement on Climate Change at its signing ceremony to be held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on April 22.
Sri Lankan Minister of Science, Technology and Research Susil Premajayantha will be signing the agreement on behalf of the government, reports Lanka Page.
Sri Lanka at the 21st session of the United Nations Framework Convention held in the French capital of Paris on Environmental disaster (UNFCCC) from November 30, 2015, till December11 the same year agreed to contribute to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
Premajayantha will also attend the UN General Assembly on the World Drug Problem and the High Level Thematic Debate on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, which will also be held on the preceding days.
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal made by President Maithripala Sirisena to assign Premajayantha to sign the agreement and also to participate in the other functions in line with the ceremony.
