The last surviving member of the United States air crew that dropped the nuclear bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 passed away at 93 in Georgia.
Theodore Van Kirk, lovingly known as "Dutch," was the navigator of the aircraft, Enola Gay that dropped the bomb.
He had said earlier that he did not regret being a part of the mission that killed about 140,000 people in Japan because it helped to end the Second World War, reported the BBC.
Paying tribute to Kirk, his son, Tom Van Kirk, said that although the world knew him as a war hero, he knew him as a great father.
He also confirmed that his father died of natural causes at his retirement home.
His funeral is expected to be held in Pennsylvania next week.
