Latvian ace Ernests Gulbis is reportedly of the opinion that tennis is a tough career for women to follow when they need to think about kids and he included his younger sisters, who both play in the French Open, in his remarks.
Gulbis, who won his first ATP Tour doubles title at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships, said that the would not like his sisters to become professional tennis players as it is a tough choice of life.
According to the BBC, the Latvian tennis star said that a woman needs to enjoy life a little bit more, needs to think about family and about kids.
Gulbis, who defeated Czech Republic's Radek Stepanek 6-3, 6-2, 7-5, to set up a fourth-round meeting with Roger Federer at Roland Garros, said that life on tour was testing, particularly for female players who cannot think about having children until they are in their late twenties.
However, world number eight and 2012 French Open winner Maria Sharapova, who was unperturbed by Gulbis' comments, said that she does not think they can take everything serious when the Latvian speaks, adding that he is a great entertainment and they love to listen to what he has to say, but one has different opinions.
