A lawyer has filed sedition charges against Bollywood actor Aamir Khan in a Kanpur sessions court for his statement on 'intolerance' in India made at an awards function earlier this week.
Advocate Manoj Kumar Dixit, who filed the case against Khan, said his 'anti-national' statement amounts to sedition
The hearing is scheduled. for December 1.
The case has been filed under IPC section 124 A (sedition), 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on religious grounds) 153 B (Imputations) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).
Earlier, speaking at the eighth edition of the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, the actor had expressed alarm and despondency over the rise in cases displaying intolerance in the last six to eight months.
He had said that a sense a sense of 'insecurity' and 'fear' had seeped deep within society, and said that his wife Kiran Rao had wondered if they should leave the country, given the deteriorating security environment.
