Police in Lebanon have ejected demonstrators from the "You Stink" movement, who were protesting against a garbage pileup and political dysfunction, at the environment minister's office in downtown Beirut.

According to the New York Times, protesters have been demanding the environment minister's resignation.

Protesters accused the riot police officers of beating and shoving demonstrators before they were cleared following an hour-long standoff.

One protester of the protestors, Wadih Al-Asmar, showed his bruise on the arm, saying sarcastically that it was a "peaceful evacuation by the Lebanese authorities".

The occupation by the demonstrators had been peaceful until police took action.
