Left parties in Telangana on Friday extended support to the state wide bandh called by the Municipal Workers Joint Action Committee.

The opposition and left parties decided to go ahead with the state-wide bandh despite the state government announced 47 per cent increase in the salaries of the sanitation workers in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits last evening.

Municipal workers in 35 municipalities and 27 Urban Panchayats have been striking work for the past ten days in support of their demands including revision in their wages.

However, the state government has decided to hike salaries only for those working with the GHMC by 47 per cent.

For other municipalities, the government said it will be a burden for the rest of the financially non-viable municipalities to increase salaries.
