Lena Dunham has been hospitalized for a ruptured ovarian cyst on March 5, a rep for the 'Girls' creator confirmed.

The spokesperson further said that the 29-year-old actress will be undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital and hopes her privacy will be respected, reports Us magazine.

The 'Happy Christmas' actress is suffering from endometriosis, a female reproductive disease that can cause such side effects, which can be life-threatening if left untreated.

Dunham recently announced in an Instagram post that she would have to bow out of a press tour to promote the new season of the HBO show 'Girls' due to her health issues, though she lauded executive producers Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner, as well as her cast mates, for their hard work in promoting the series.

"I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it's time to rest," she captioned a photo of her hand on a bedspread.

"That's a hard thing to do, but I'm trying, because all I want is to make season 6 of Girls the best one yet," she added.
