West Indian cricketer Lendl Simmons scored the first century of IPL season 7 to take the Mumbai Indians to a seven-wicket victory against top placed rivals Kings XI Punjab.

Simmons blasted an undefeated 100 off 61 balls with fourteen fours and two sixes to help the Mumbai Indians to their victory as his West Indian colleague Kieron Pollard hit a six off the final delivery to charge their side to victory with 159 runs for three wickets.

According to Sport24, Punjab went in to bat first and finished at 156 for eight in their twenty overs to lose the match by seven wickets at the the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, Chandigarh on Wednesday.

Mumbai Indians' all rounder Shreyas Gopal bagged Manan Vohra and Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell's wickets in his double-break in the twelfth over, which reportedly helped his side to turn the match around in their favour.

Punjab added just 43 runs between the tenth and the eighteenth over while four wickets fell, but Australian cricketer George Bailey scored 39 off 30 balls to provide the team some late momentum.

Punjab managed to accumulate 156 runs in their twenty overs although they looked like they were heading for 180, and Simmons guided the Mumbai Indians to victory with his century to keep their hopes of a playoff alive in the IPL-7, the report added.
