John Lennon's books and manuscripts of parodies, nonsense verse and poetry have sold for record high prices at Sotheby's New York.
The original manuscripts and drawings by former Beatle for two acclaimed books he wrote in the mid-1960s were sold for 2.9 million dollars, which was more than double the pre-sale estimate, the Guardian reported.
The manuscript for Lennon's parody of Sherlock Holmes from 'A Spaniard in the Works' titled 'The Singularge Experience of Miss Anne Duffield' fetched 209,000 dollars.
Other top items in the auction included The Fat Budgie manuscript, which sold for 143,000 dollars, and an ink drawing of a guitar player that went for 137,000 dollars.
The collection was sold by Lennon's British publisher Tom Maschler, who persuaded him to write the books.
