Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will kick-start the much-awaited International Yoga Day celebrations from Rajpath in the national capital today, extended greetings to people around the world on the occasion.

The Prime Minister took to Twitter to share his greetings.

"Greetings to people around the world on 1st International Day of Yoga! Lets pledge to make Yoga an integral part of our daily lives #YogaDay," he tweeted.

"In some parts of the world, the 1st rays of the sun have already been welcomed by people practicing Yoga. This will continue across the world," he added.

The yoga celebrations are being organised after the United Nations had in December last year declared June 21 as International Yoga Day, with 177 countries voting in favour.

The proposal was mentioned by Prime Minister Modi during his address to the UN General Assembly last year.
