The Lahore High Court (LHC) has asked the Punjab government to present "sensitive" documents regarding Mumbai terror attacks accused Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi's activities on Thursday.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Lakhvi challenging his fourth one-month detention ordered by the Okara DCO on March 14, reported the Dawn.
Advocate Raja Rizwan Abbasi argued that the petitioner had filed a representation with the home secretary against his detention. However, the representation was dismissed by the secretary, who upheld the one-month-long detention order issued by the Okara DCO.
The counsel contended that a person could not be kept in custody beyond 90 days without obtaining an order from review board, which comprises judges of the high court.
He pointed out that the trial court had released the petitioner on bail in December 2014; however, a detention order was issued against him by the Islamabad district magistrate. He added that the Islamabad High Court had later ordered the government to release the petitioner, setting aside the previous detention order.
Abbasi contended that the petitioner, however, was not released and another detention order was issued by the Okara DCO. He urged the court to dismiss the "impugned order" and direct the government to release Lakhvi.
