Chinese tennis ace Li Na and Italian Flavia Pennetta were the first two women to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open tournament on Sunday following their respective fourth-round victories.
Two-time finalist Li advanced for the third time in four years with a 6-2, 6-0 win in just 59 minutes over Russian Ekaterina Makarova, improving her record at the first Grand Slam of the year to 31 wins from 39 matches.
Meanwhile, Pennetta paved her way to the last eight of the tournament following a 6-1 4-6 7-5 win over ninth seed Angelique Kerber to book her place in the quarterfinals of Australian Open 2014.
