Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has joined striker Wayne Rooney in backing player-coach Ryan Giggs to be the next permanent manager of the Old Trafford side.

Rooney spoke in favour of Giggs, who took temporary charge following the sacking of Moyes, following their 4-0 win over Norwich City, but Louis van Gaal remains favourite to succeed David Moyes.

According to the BBC, Lindegaard has compared Giggs to Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola, saying that although his opinion might seem 'pretty' rash or naive, they are dealing with a new Guardiola in Giggs given what he has achieved in the club in his first week as a coach.

Stating that Giggs has striking resemblances with former coach Sir Alex Ferguson, Lindegaard also said that it is evident that Giggs has learnt from one of history's most respected football managers, adding that Giggs has successfully made his transition from being a teammate one day to a manager the next.

Lindegaard also said that Giggs' speech before the team went onto the pitch for the Norwich game, made his hairs stand on end in a way that he has only ever experienced from Ferguson: 'Do not disappoint the fans'.

Giggs has won 13 league titles, four FA Cups, four league cups and two European Cups as a United player, the report added.
