Lion falls in well, rescued in a heroic effort

A lion, which had fallen in an open well was rescued by the forest department in Amrapur village of Junagadh district on Monday.

The forest department workers lowered ropes in the 60-feet deep well and pulled the lion out after the residents of Amrapur informed forest officers that a lion had fallen in the open well located on a farm.

He rescued lion has now been sent to animal care centre in Sasan Gir where it will be kept under observation for some time before being released in the wild.

According to the forest department officials, the lion could have fallen into the well during the wee hours of Monday morning or Sunday night.

 

There are 411 lions living in the wild in Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Amreli and Bhavnagar districts of Gujarat according to the 2010 census.
