Lionsgate apologises for casting choices in 'Gods of Egypt'

The makers of 'Gods of Egypt' have apologised for casting white actors to play ancient Egyptian characters.

The Lionsgate studio have apologised for the lack of diversity in the movie's casting.

The studio released a statement, saying "We recognise that it is our responsibility to help ensure that casting decisions reflect the diversity and culture of the time periods portrayed. In this instance, we failed to live up to our own standards of sensitivity and diversity, for which we sincerely apologise."

They said that the studio was deeply committed to making films that reflected the diversity of their audiences, The Independent reoprts.

Director of the movie Alex Proyas said the process of casting a movie has many complicated variables. He however agreed that their casting choices should have been more diverse.

 

The movie stars Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Gerard Butler and is set to hit the theaters on Feb. 26.
