After being refused a certificate from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in India, Alankrita Srivastav's 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' is on its way to rock the international markets.

The controversial movie has been lined up to open the 15th edition of Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA). The director is confirmed to be attending the festival with the film.

'Lipstick Under My Burkha,' which speaks about the aspirations of women, was not given a certificate from CBFC for its sexual scenes, abusive words and audio pornography.

The film won the Spirit of Asia Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Oxfam Award for Best Film on Gender Equality at the Mumbai Film Festival.

The film stars Konkona Sen Sharma and Ratna Pathak Shah in the lead roles.

On a related note, IFFLA has been an important destination for independent filmmakers living in India or outside India to showcase their documentaries or short movies.

The festival takes place from April 5 to April 9 at the Regal L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
