Live video streaming app Periscope has released a new update.

According to the Verge, the latest update allows users who do not have a Twitter account to start broadcasting videos through the service from their smart-phone. Although Twitter recommends signing up through a Twitter account because that helps use their social graphs to find people to follow.

Also, the update makes it easier to reply to comments on live broadcasts, changes the app to show when a streamer blocks a viewer in the broadcast chat room and allows both viewers and streamers to change their profile pictures.

The details of the update were released in a post by the Periscope team on the blog-publishing platform Medium. The update comes six weeks after Twitter first released the app and two months after Twitter purchase Periscope for an undisclosed amount. Twitter has not yet revealed how much it did pay for the video company but according to the company's recent quarterly earnings report, it bought both Periscope and social media talent agency Niche for more than USD 86 million combined.
