Liverpool closed the gap on the Premier League top-four spot to just four points with a convincing 2-0 win over Newcastle on Monday night.
Striker Raheem Sterling scored his 11th club goal of the season as he gave Liverpool an early advantage with a clinical finish past Tim Krul in the ninth minute.
On the other hand, Newcastle made a strong but unsuccessful penalty appeal before the first-half, and subsequently Joe Allen doubled the lead to put Brendan Rodgers' side in a strong position in the 70th minute.
Reflecting on his team's performance, Rodgers said that they showed attacking intent in the game, won the ball back quickly and controlled the game for the last five or six minutes in the first half, the BBC reported.
With the win, Liverpool have moved to the fifth spot in the league table, four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
