Liverpool has managed to keep the pressure on their Premier League rivals with a 2-1 home at Anfield over Sunderland on Wednesday to record a seventh successive league win.

The victory enabled Brendan Rodgers' men to regain second spot in the table, a point behind leaders Chelsea, although Manchester City, which is two points back in third place, has two games in hand on the teams above them.

According to Sport24, captain Steven Gerrard gave the hosts a 39th-minute lead with a fine free-kick following which striker Daniel Sturridge scored his 20th goal of the campaign by netting the second goal for the hosts three minutes into the second half, adding that South Korean midfielder Ki Sung-yueng pulled a consolation goal for Sunderland.

Sturridge's goal meant that he and Luis Suarez have now both scored 20 league goals this season, which is the first time two Liverpool strikers have achieved that feat since Ian St John and Roger Hunt in the 1963-64 campaign, the report added.
