Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard has reportedly told troubled striker Luis Suarez that joining Arsenal would not be a step forward for him.

According to the Mirror, Liverpool stood firm in the face of a 40,000,00 pounds plus a pound bid from Arsenal that sparked fury at the Merseyside club.

Gerrard, who reportedly became a confidante for the Uruguayan when he was trying to force through his departure from Anfield, believes that a move to the Emirates would not be a step forward for Suarez, adding that the player should join Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich if Liverpool does not qualify for the Champions League this season.

According to Gerrard, Suarez may ruin his relationship with his supporters in Liverpool if he goes to another English club like Arsenal, adding that he does not want Suarez to make the same mistake Fernando Torres did when he moved to Chelsea from Liverpool.

Gerrard further said that Suarez would have another chance to move forward to a club that he deserves to be at.

Suarez will miss the clash with Manchester United on Sunday as he serves the final three games of a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic last season, the report added.
