After Premier League club Arsenal bid 1 pound over 40 million pounds for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, the player has been warned that the club was determined to take control of the agenda and preferred to sell the Uruguayan striker to Real Madrid instead of Arsenal.

According to the Mirror, managing director Ian Ayre conceded the player's contract allows for him to be told of any offer in excess of 40m pounds and to speak to the club concerned.

However, the report said that Suarez must submit a written transfer request before the possibility of a move would even be considered.

Ayre said that it was an important time for the club and in the best interests of the football club, Luis remains a Liverpool player and there has never been an intention to sell him.

There could be a stand-off in the coming days, with the Uruguayan reluctant to put a request in writing and eager to also hear from Real Madrid, and Liverpool trying to turn the terms more in their favour, the report added.
