London police proceeds in MQM chief's case

Taking notice of the concern raised by Lord Nazir Ahmed in a letter to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan Howe over the issue of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain, the latter has acknowledged that he has sent Ahmed's letter to Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley, Specialist Operations for his consideration and response.

Ahmed, in his letter on 23rd August, said, "Altaf Hussain based in London and leader of MOM who has made a highly offensive and threatening speech against Pakistani Media, The State of Pakistan and other law enforcement institutions on August 22, 2016. As an immediate effect of Hussain's provocation to violence, armed carriers from militant wing of MOM attacked the offices of two prominent TV channels (ARY & Samma) soon after his speech."

 

He recalled that Altaf Hussain happens to be a British citizen and is using British territory to provoke his supporters to carry out acts of violence against the people of Karachi, Pakistan, reports the Nation.

"He has chosen time when Pakistan Army & Rangers are already fighting against terrorism in tribal areas, Afghan border area and in cities like Karachi. Altaf Hussain's Party MQM is known to have militant wings who have been previously accused of involvement in murders and extortion throughout Karachi and Sindh province," the letter said.

Ahmed further said that he is aware that there are various investigations of alleged money laundering, incitement to violence and murder of Imran Farooq against him in London.

He referred to the recent landmark judgement and conviction of Anjum Choudary, a British citizen where Metropolitan Police has set an example against hate speech and have exhibited its intolerance against those who incite and advocate violence anywhere in the world.

In conclusion, Ahmed said that he would be obliged if the allegations are investigated seriously and Hussain is not allowed to use Britain to advocate violence in Pakistan.
