Cricket South Africa (CSA) CEO Haroon Lorgat has finally broken his silence over his rumoured suspension from the board during the India tour, and insisted that the decision taken for him not to be involved with the upcoming India tour was his own.
Lorgat will not be dealing with matters related to India and the ICC pending an inquiry into allegations against him, which stem from his role in a statement issued by a former legal head of the ICC that the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) flouting of the Future Tours Programme (FTP) could have legal implications.
According to Sport24, the statement had said that it was 'improper' to allow a member body to 'blatantly disregard an ICC resolution', following which, an upset BCCI almost called off the tour to South Africa.
Although Lorgat would take care of all domestic affairs at CSA during India's tour to South Africa, he insisted that he took the decision to temporarily step aside on his own, adding that he offered to step aside until the tour was confirmed as he did not want it to be cancelled because of him.
Lorgat also said that his position is not untenable and there is plenty of work for him to do on the domestic front while the India tour is on and mentioned a development programme that must be revisited as well as transformation issues to be dealt with.
CSA now stands to lose about 200 million rands in lost revenue due to the shortened India tour, the report added.
